The newly renamed Eastern Star Gallery, located on The Archer School for Girls’ historic campus in Los Angeles, will begin its 2013-2014 school year with an exhibition of new work from Los Angeles-based photographer Tierney Gearon. The “Private Princess” exhibition will feature a selection of different bodies of work, including “COLOR SHAPE,” “EXPLOSURE,” and photographs from Gearon’s newly released, “Alphabet Book.” The gallery will host a reception for Gearon on Thursday, October 10, from 6:30-8:00 p.m.… Read the rest

Home Truths: Photography, Motherhood and Loss

The Foundling Museum

Four contemporary photographers explore the theme of loss in the relationship between mother and child.

Curator Susan Bright has selected work by Ann Fessler (b. 1950, USA), Tierney Gearon (b. 1963, USA), Miyako Ishiuchi (b. 1947, Japan) and Annu Palakunnathu Matthew (b. 1964, Britain), who use photography in a variety of ways: by digitising vernacular photographs, drawing on documentary and experimental film practice or as a trace.

Set within the emotionally resonant context of the Foundling Museum, Home Truths explores issues that are complex and familiar, haunting and thought-provoking.… Read the rest
